the drawing shed
the drawing shed is a contemporary art organisation led by artists Sally Labern and Bobby Lloyd. the drawing shed delivers a creative community development programme to people of all ages and backgrounds living in and around The Drive and Attlee Terrace estates in Waltham Forest E17 - two dynamic, culturally-diverse neighbourhoods with high levels of social and economic deprivation. They run activities from LockUpNumber11 - a heated garage and project space on The Drive estate, and The Sunken Garden - a communal green space in the heart of Attlee Terrace.
As Community Development Coordinator, I coordinated key projects including: Top Boy Bakers - supporting local men to mentor teenage boys from the estates through the art of baking; Live on the Drive - enabling teenage girls to be more visible and grow in confidence through devising their own performances; and The Sunken Garden - supporting residents of all ages to transform a neglected urban garden into a warm and welcoming space for the whole community to enjoy. I engaged residents as participants, co-producers and advocates for projects, and created partnerships with a range of grass-root organisations and strategic partners including London Borough of Waltham Forest, YMCA East, St Mary’s Church and Central Parade – a Meanwhile managed space in the heart of Walthamstow Central.
