Ocean Treasures is a project conceived with journalist, photographer Michael Willoughby. The aim of the project is to discover the multiple, fascinating stories of the Ocean Estate in Stepney and celebrate the diverse voices and experiences of the people living there.
Throughout a programme of creative writing workshops and social events, we invited people living in and around the Ocean Estate in Stepney, to select a ‘treasured’ possession that has a special significance and expresses something important about them, their history, home or family life. These sessions revealed the stories behind the objects and uncovered surprising connections and common ground between disparate groups.
Ocean Treasures will culminate in an exhibition and short documentary film - to be presented once Covid restrictions are eased.
